New shared space catalogue will help University use space efficiently

The catalogue is a key output of a FOCUS project aimed at helping departments use teaching space more efficiently by sharing with other parts of the University.

The Facilities Management (FM) team within Estates Services helped identify potentially shareable teaching and event spaces in buildings under their management and provided comprehensive information including capacity, layout options, accessibility and audio-visual facilities for each. Anyone having trouble using the catalogue to book space should contact the FM Helpdesk on (2)70087 or

The pilot phase of the project, set to run until July 2020, focuses on large lecture theatres and takes the form of an interactive PDF; if it is successful, smaller spaces may be added and the catalogue format may be changed. Other initiatives that are underway within the Teaching Space Utilisation FOCUS project include a pilot of space sharing between the Manor Road and St Cross buildings during Michaelmas Term, and a trial of electronic sensors to count how many people are using rooms in the same buildings; both of these are led by the Space Management team with assistance from other parts of Estates Services including FM.
