Sustainability Showcase salutes environmental progress across the University

Vice Chancellor at Sustainability Showcase

The Sustainability Showcase celebrates the progress that has been made in reducing our environmental impact over the last year. The event, hosted by Dr David Prout, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Resources and attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Louise Richardson, also saw the launch of the University’s ambitious new carbon target, committing it to halving emissions from their peak by 2030.

It also celebrated the achievements made by staff and students under engagement programmes including Green Impact and Student Switch Off, and included the results of this year’s Sustainability Photographer of the Year competition, won by Hermione Grassi’s superb image ‘Education lights the way’.

More than 5,000 actions have already been taken by more than 6,000 people to make workplaces more sustainable as part of Green Impact. This year 11 buildings won Bronze awards, three Silver, 10 Gold and another six achieved the new Gold+ award.

There were also special awards for projects including ‘Roots to Success’ from Oxford University Innovation, which will see a tree planted in Wytham Woods for every spin-out and startup – this will amount to more than 200 new trees over the next few years.
