Harriet Waters chairs international campus sustainability meeting
Head of Environmental Sustainability Harriet Waters recently chaired the annual meeting of the Campus Sustainability working group of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) in Yale University at New Haven, Connecticut in the USA.
The group discussed shared challenges and opportunities in moving their universities towards greater sustainability – from striking the right balance between buildings and green space in new developments to cutting the waste sent to landfill to zero and setting effective carbon-reduction targets.
Space Manager Emma Spencer was also in New Haven, representing the University at the IARU Real Estates working group, which was held at Yale at the same time; Director of Operations Isobel Hughes also attended both meetings.
IARU is a group of 11 research-intensive universities from nine countries all over the world, which meet regularly to share experience and best practice in key strategic areas.
