New bannister added to History of Science Museum
Staff from the Conservation & Buildings team have worked with a highly skilled local blacksmith and museum staff to install a new mild steel banister on the main staircase at the History of Science Museum
This will greatly improve the safety of staff and visitors on the staircase, since before now the only handrail available has been too big to conveniently grab for support, and there have been several falls there over the years. The banister, made in sections that were then joined together on site, looks fantastic and complements its setting perfectly.
At the same time, members of the Building Services team also upgraded the lighting on the staircase, providing brighter more even illumination throughout. The unobtrusive new light fittings blend into the landing ceilings they are installed in.
Both improvements will help a wider range of people access the museum.
