Old Bodleian ticket office renovated

The new design offers better security for staff within; the old one had large, heavy panels of metal-framed glass, while the new one features new timber posts to provide reinforcement, with much smaller sliding hatches to pass money and tickets through. This is better suited to the historic context of the site, and will also be much warmer and more comfortable in cold weather.

The project was done by staff from the Conservation & Buildings team and the FM Joiners, whose expertise enabled them to create new wooden parts that blended in perfectly with the existing structure. The team also installed a new intercom system as well as renewing the wood’s finish.  The alterations mean the ticket office now complies with the Health and Safety Executive’s Workplace Code of Practice.
