The Science Wonder Discovery Evening will take place at Begbroke Farmhouse and is aimed at a slightly older teenage age group than the last event in the series, the Science Wonder Garden Party, with a greater focus on career opportunities in science and technology. This is in response to feedback received there.
The free event is part of IF Oxford Festival, and aims to give young people a chance to meet researchers, discover some of the amazing science that happens at Begbroke and across the wider University, and the many ways in which it could create a better world.
The activities on offer include talks on careers in environmental biotech, the efforts of OXCCU (a spinout based at the Science Park) to turn waste CO2 into sustainable fuels or building climate-resilient communities. They can also play 'pandemic detective' with researchers and find out about the practicalities of tracking animals in the wild from WildCRU - Oxford's Wildlife Conservation Unit.
These events are organised by Oxford University Development (OUD), part of the L&G joint venture, and more will follow. They form part of a wider programme of public engagement events relating to the University's long-term plans to develop the Science Park and the area around it into a unique new innovation district.
