Accessed online, the ArcGIS system enables users to view maps of University buildings and the types of space they contain, as well as analysing space usage at a building, departmental or divisional level. It can also produce high-quality maps showing any aspect of the space data available.

The system also lets departments update their space information at any point necessary throughout the year, for example if they have started using some space in a building for different purposes. Previously this kind of change had to be reported to the Information team as part of the annual space data round, which created a large amount of work over a short period both for the team and for those responsible for space reporting in departments.

The team have run a series of webinars in recent months to introduce colleagues across the University to ArcGIS, but are happy to provide more information to anyone who was unable to attend. If you would like access to the system to view or update space-related information relevant to your field, please contact Sergio Gil Dones on sergio.gildones@admin.ox.ac.uk, who will be happy to set up an account for you. The team are also planning another webinar showcasing ArcGIS at noon on 14 October; again, contact Sergio if you would like to attend.
