Reuben College’s major capital project converting an old library to a laboratory space has made the RIBA prize shortlist. RIBA – the Royal Institute of British Architects – holds awards each year for the most innovative and sustainable building projects across the UK. Reuben has been shortlisted for the RIBA South Awards; the winner will go through to the national awards with a chance to be in contention for the UK’s best new building. Judging for the RIBA South Awards takes place shortly, with the final RIBA Stirling Prize winner announced in October.
Two of the new buildings at Begbroke Science Park have also been shortlisted for a Construction News award. The two new science buildings total 135,000sq ft, with one delivering academic space for the University and the other providing complementary space for spinouts and other innovative private-sector partners.
And finally, the design for the Oxford Institute of Digital Health – which was granted planning permission late last year - has won a World Architecture News Gold award in the Adaptive Reuse category. The award celebrates an innovative design that aims to give new life to existing buildings. It is proposed that the building will be occupied by part of the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, and will provide superb facilities for teaching and research exploring transforming healthcare systems and improving patient care using digital technology. The Department is now actively fundraising for the building project.
