Plans for Botley Road closure set out by Network Rail

The Oxford Corridor Phase 2 project will improve the station and the surrounding area in numerous ways:

  • a new platform and secondary station entrance on the western side of the railway
  • improved cycle/footway facilities
  • a safer road layout at junctions with Botley Road
  • replacement and upgrade of the Botley Road bridge, with addition of 4-metre cycle/footway on each side to encourage walking and cycling and increased height clearance, allowing standard size double-decker buses to pass underneath for the first time.

Unfortunately, the project will also mean Botley Road will be closed at the railway bridge for around a year. Network Rail proposes to start work on 9 January 2023 and continue until December 2023.

Pedestrian and cycle access through the closure points is planned to be maintained throughout, although the specific route through may change. Buses will operate to either side of the closure, so those looking to continue their journeys will need to walk a short distance and change buses.

Staff and students will be strongly encouraged to use public transport during the affected period.
